Today's speaker was the principle of Jackson Junior High Scott Matheny. He brought three students from the Sandusky Schools Gentlemen's Club. The club has 12 members chosen from students at the school. These 12 young men perform many community service projects throughout the year. The club is involved in community service projects, members helped out at various events throughout the school year and even stopped by the Ohio Veterans Home to play bingo, balloon volleyball and share stories. In the process these students learn to respect themselves, other students, teachers, and parents. This is the second year of the club. Initially the group had 12 young men. This year they had applications from 30+ students. They have held the group to 12. In addition to projects the students are able to take various trips throughout the year, including a Cleveland Cavaliers game. More students teachers and groups like this are needed throughout our education system. The program has been a huge success and has been featured in articles in the Sandusky Register.
