Leaders as Mentors

At yesterdays meeting we had Amy Roldan, Charlie Sams, Jane Arnold, and Margaret Rudolph; all graduates of the 2007 Erie County Leadership Program; speaking about their project Leaders as Mentors. This program works directly with youths in the Erie County Juvenile Detention Center. They have two programs set up one is a group session and one is a one on one mentoring. The one on one mentoring is a male only program. The program is designed to give youths who normally don't get much attention at home or are not listened too a chance to sit with Leaders in our community who will listen, guide and support them. It was great to hear stories of how the kids open up to the people who volunteer their time for this program. I hope the community supports this program to help children that truly need a little attention and someone to look up to.
